Poetry about Jesus Christ

I Know That My Redeemer Lives
Samuel Medley

I know that my Redeemer lives.
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, he lives, who once was dead.
He lives, my everlasting Head.

He lives to bless me with his love.
He lives to plead for me above.
He lives my hungry soul to feed.
He lives to bless in time of need.

He lives to grant me rich supply.
He lives to guide me with his eye.
He lives to comfort me when faint.
He lives to hear my soul's complaint.

He lives to silence all my fears.
He lives to wipe away my tears.
He lives to calm my troubled heart.
He lives all blessings to impart.

He lives, my kind wise heavenly Friend.
He lives and loves me to the end.
He lives, and while He lives, I'll sing.
He lives, my Prophet, Priest and King.

He lives and grants me daily bread.
He lives, and I shall conquer death.
He lives my mansion to prepare.
He lives to bring me safely there.

He lives! All glory to his name!
He lives, my Savior, still the same.
Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives:
"I know that my Redeemer lives!"

God Loved Us, So He Sent His Son
Edward Kimball

God loved us, so he sent his Son,
Christ Jesus, the atoning One,
To show us by the path he trod
The one and only way to God.

He came as man, though Son of God,
And bowed himself beneath the rod.
He died in holy innocence.
A broken law to recompense.

Oh, love effulgent, love divine!
What debt of gratitude is mine,
That in his offering I have part,
And hold a place within his heart.

In word and deed he doth require
My will to his, like son to sire,
Be made to bend, and I, as son,
Learn conduct from the Holy One.

This sacrament doth represent
His blood and body for me spent.
Partaking now is deed for word
That I remember him, my Lord.

He Is Risen
Charles Wesley

He is risen! He is risen!
Tell it out with joyful voice.
He has burst his three day prison;
Let the whole wide earth rejoice.
Death is conquered, man is free.
Christ has won the victory.

Come with high and holy hymning;
Christ our Lord's triumphant lay.
Not one darksome cloud is dimming
Yonder glorious morning ray,
Breaking o'er the purple east,
Symbol of our Easter feast.

He is risen! He is risen!
He hath opened heaven's gate.
We are free from sin's dark prison,
Risen to a holier state.
And a brighter Easter beam
On our longing eyes shall stream.

Blessed by the Christ
Annah N. Imus

I was a sinner brought forth unto Him,
Condemned by law to be stoned for my sin.
They asked His opinion. He spoke in soft tone,
"Let he without sin cast the first stone."
And when they'd departed,
My soul he restored.
Saying, "Go they way and sin nor more."

I was a blind man — without sight from birth
That God's works be manifest, he spat on the earth
And anointed my eyes with the clay he had made.
To the pool of Siloam he sent me to bath.
I went as he'd told me and washed faithfully
When I opened my eyes, oh Lord, I could see!

Thronged by a crowd I saw him passing by
I pushed my way toward him, and oh how I tried
To reach him. If only his robe I could feel.
One touch of my hand and I knew I'd be healed.
He felt power leave and asked, "Who touched my robe?
Woman, thy faith hath made thee whole."

At Bethésda I waited for waters to swirl
But, lameness kept me from being first in the pool.
When he saw me he questioned "Wilt thou be made whole?"
I cried, "I have no man to put me in the pool."
He ordered me, "Rise up, take thy bed and walk."
And I, instantly healed, stood before him in awe.

I went out to met Him as he came — and said,
"Lord, werst thou here my brother would not be dead."
He went to the tomb, rolling the stone away
Looked up to the sky. To his Father he prayed.
"Lazarus come forth!" He cried out to him.
My brother rose up, and again he did live!

I was a leper who fell to my knees
Pleading "Oh, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean."
And moved with compassion he reached tenderly
And touching me said "I will; be thou clean."
As soon as he'd spoken I suddenly sensed
The leprosy gone, my body was cleansed.

How Great Thou Art
Stuart K. Hine

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works they hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

When through the woods and forest glades I wander, And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.

And when I think that God his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, "My God, how great thou art!"

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!

My Redeemer Livest
Gordon B. Hinckley

I know that my Redeemer lives,
Triumphant Savior, Son of God,
Victorious over pain and death,
My king, my leader, and my Lord.

He lives, my one sure rock of faith.
The one bright hope of men on earth,
The beacon to a better way,
The light beyond the veil of death.

Oh, give me thy sweet Spirit still,
The peace that comes alone from thee,
The faith to walk the lonely road,
That leads to thine eternity.

The Lord Is My Shepherd
James Montgomery

The Lord is my Shepherd; no want shall I know.
I feed in green pastures; safe-folded I rest.
He leadeth my soul where the still waters flow,
Restores me when wandering, redeems when oppressed.

Through the valley and shadow of death though I stray,
Since Thou art my Guardian, no evil I fear.
Thy rod shall defend me, they staff be my stay.
No harm can befall with my Comforter near.

In the midst of affliction my table is spread.
With blessings unmeasured my cup runneth o'er.
With perfume and oil thou anointest my head.
Oh, what shall I ask of thy providence more?

I Believe In Christ
Bruce R. McConkie

I believe in Christ; he is my King!
With all my heart to him I'll sing;
I'll raise my voice in praise and joy,
In grand amens my tongue employ.

I believe in Christ, he is God's Son.
On earth to dwell his soul did come.
He healed the sick; the dead he raised.
Good works were his; his name be praised.
I believe in Christ; oh blessed name!
As Mary's Son he came to reign.
Mid mortal men, his earthly kin,
To save them from the woes of sin.

I believe in Christ, who marked the path,
Who did gain all his Father hath,
Who said to men: "Come follow me,
That ye, my friends, with God may be."

I believe in Christ, my Lord my God!
My feet he plants on gospel sod.
I'll worship him with all my might;
He is the source of truth and light.

I believe in Christ; he ransoms me.
From Satan's grasp he sets me free,
And I shall live with joy and love
In his eternal courts above.

I believe in Christ; he stands supreme!
From him I'll gain my fondest dream;
And while I strive through grief and pain,
His voice is heard: "Ye shall obtain."

I believe in Christ; so come what may,
With him I'll stand in that great day
When on the earth he comes again
To rule among the sons of men.

How Great the Wisdom and the Love
Eliza R. Snow

How great the wisdom and the love
That filled the courts on high
And sent the Savior from above
To suffer, bleed, and die.

His precious blood he freely spilt;
His life he freely gave,
A sinless sacrifice for guilt,
A dying world to save.

By strict obedience Jesus won
The prize with glory rife:
"Thy will, O God, not mine be done,"
Adorned his mortal life.

He marked the path and lead the way,
And every point defines
To light and life and endless day
Where God's full presence shines.

In memory of the broken flesh
We eat the broken bread,
And witness with the cup, afresh,
Our faith in Christ our Head.

How great, how glorious, how complete,
Redemption's grand design,
Where justice, love, and mercy meet
In harmony divine!

I Have Faith In Him
Annah N. Imus

Born in a lowly stable
He came to earth live
To show the way for all mankind
To serve, to lift, to give.

He taught us by example
He showed us how to love
By the promptings of His Spirit
He guides us from above.

I feel His Spirit with me,
As in my heart I pray.
Assuring love surrounds me
As I seek him everyday.

Through all my tests and times of trial
His comfort I do seek.
In the silence of my broken heart
These words I often speak.

I have faith in Christ
I know he lives
Thru his mercy I've been born again
I have faith in him.

I have faith in Christ
I can feel his love
By his grace I'll live with him again
I have faith in him.

I seek his spirit daily.
And as I bow to pray,
All weariness and sadness
Soon vanishes away.

His love and peace sustain me
Every hour of the day
With a pure and simple faith
My soul doth humbly say.

I have faith in Christ
I know he lives
Thru his mercy I've been born again
I have faith in him.

I have faith in Christ
I can feel his love
By his grace I'll live with him again
I have faith in him.

The Lord Is My Light
James Nicholson

The Lord I my light; then why should I fear?
By day and by night his presence is near.
He is my salvation from sorrow and sin;
This blessed assurance the Spirit doth bring.

The Lord is my light; though clouds may arise,
Faith stronger than sight, looks up through the skies
Where Jesus forever in glory doth reign.
Then how can I ever in darkness remain?

The Lord is my light; the Lord is my strength.
I know in his might I'll conquer at length.
My weakness in mercy he covers with power,
And, walking by faith, I am blest every hour.

The Lord is my light, my all and in all.
There is in his sight no darkness at all.
He is my Redeemer, my Savior, and King.
With Saints and with angels his praises I'll sing.

The Lord is my light;
He is my joy and my song.
By day and by night
He leads me, he leads me along
